Online Knowledge Test Application (OKTA)New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles' Online Knowledge Test Application (OKTA) is designed to allow high school students who are 16 or older to take the driver’s license knowledge test in their own high school via the Internet for free. This will cut the time students and parents spend at the DMV office. The test is presented online in both English and Spanish. Allegany Limestone is a participant of this program with the DMV and New York State through the library.
To take part in this service, students may come to the library to schedule a time to take their test during a free period. Copies of the Driver’s Manual are available if the student needs one. When the student comes in at the scheduled time, proof of identity will be presented, and students’ basic information will be entered into the OKTA system to assign the student to a test. After the student completes the test, a pass or fail is issued. Students who pass will be given a receipt from the program and forms, which will be taken to the DMV where the learner’s permit will be issued. If the student does not pass, they are able to retake the test.
